Mark Reinhardt- Boise Idaho
The City of Boise’s Planning and Zoning Commission
is set to discuss an amendment to the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
Addressing the expansion plans, Boise Neighbor Scott
Woodbury said,
“We oppose the closure of Jefferson St. It is a main
ingress/egress for the East-End neighborhoods and should be preserved. No acceptable
alternatives have been proposed.”
Boise resident Nathan Rowland had suggested a
different way to address the Jefferson Street issue.
“Any significant expansion of St Luke's should be predicated
on improvements of the Broadway/Main/Idaho/Warm Springs/Ave B and
State/Fort/Ave B intersections at St Luke's expense in order to mitigate
increased traffic. I would like to round-abouts installed at both
intersections.”
In terms of Roundabouts, the City of London England
is well known for the use of Roundabouts in addressing traffic flow.
CH2MHILL had issued a traffic impact study in July
of Last Year, according to documents obtained through the Idaho Public Records
Act.
Documents submitted to the City’s Planning and
Development Services department addressed issues related to the expansion.
“My name is John Bush. I am President of the Board of Directors of the Boise Seminoles Baseball
program. Our home is Jack Acree Field at Fort Boise. I have looked at the St Luke’s master plan
and the traffic projections/intersection alternatives. I am concerned about roundabouts and the
relative location to our outfield fence line. I believe it has a negative impact aesthetically and it brings both vehicular and pedestrian traffic in close proximity to our fence and what will soon be a
newly constructed batters eye. Based on our experience, we have higher incidents of damage,
vandalism and trash in higher traffic areas close to the fence lines.
To the extent public comment is still being taken, please note that our baseball program would prefer Option 3 and the installation of a new traffic signal.”
The meeting will take place on the 3rd Floor of Boise City Hall.
