Breaking: Protests against Fracking permit designed for the Payette Area to take place at 3:00 PM in Boise

Mark Reinhardt-Boise Idaho

Environmental Group, "Idaho Wild Rising Tide" has announced that it would be protesting outside of the Idaho Department of Lands in Boise.
https://www.facebook.com/events/298064556995801/

The group itself is worried about environmental impacts that the Fracking Lease could have on the area, in which, the equipment for Fracking would be set up. According to the groups event page:

"A dangerous method of oil and gas well stimulation, fracking forces millions of gallons of pressurized water and toxic substances down wells to crack subsurface rocks and release small, substandard pockets of oil and natural gas. In dozens of states across the country, this process has produced hazardous, radioactive wastewater, contaminated air and water, generated cancer-causing pollution, compromised human and environmental health and safety, and released greenhouses gases causing climate change. Earthquakes triggered by fracking’s explosive charges and wastewater well injections could exacerbate Idaho’s fifth greatest amount of seismic activity in the nation and consequently shatter the mechanical integrity of such inherently toxic oil and gas wells."

The American Natural Gas Alliance had previously issued on a video on this topic in response to a documentary film titled, "Gasland."

In speaking on the effected areas, "Idaho Wild Rising Tide" had this to say about the potential impact of the lease on the surrounding areas,

"The proposed Smoke Ranch well would drill and potentially frack Birding Island, within the extensive wetlands and floodplain confluence of the Payette River and Big Willow Creek, only a few miles upriver from the City of Fruitland drinking water intake and the Payette/Snake River convergence [2]. Under the surrounding landscape full of farms, ranches, livestock, and wildlife dependent on clean surface streams and irrigation canals, aquifers only 660 feet deep perch, without much distance or barriers, over gas-bearing zones in porous layers punctured by drilling activities."

In a report issued by the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation Blog, in 2010. The blog had quoted a gas explorations officer about the Payette Gas Discovery,

The operations manager for the gas exploration company says it's too early to categorize this as a major discovery. "We have had some encouragement there," said Jeff Kirn. "We have wells that look promising, and we plan to do more.”

According to the Blog, the last attempt at Gasoline Exploration in the Payette area was in 1988. With attempts at setting up a well going back to 1900

Up until this year there has been no oil or gas production in Idaho, despite the fact that oil companies have been drilling test sites in the Gem State since 1900, the last test well was drilled back in 1988 in Payette, but it didn’t pan out.

Addressing the issue of Idaho Agriculture, Idaho Wild Rising tide had stated this on their event page:

" They have neglected to demand studies to ascertain possible drilling and fracking impacts to surface, ground, and irrigation waters, harm of human and wildlife health, damages to property values and public infrastructure, and costs to agricultural, recreation, and tourism sectors."

The group later went on to state that the only way that damage to the state economy can be stopped. Is for Idaho Residents to resist.

Now, a subject that has largely stuck to the Idaho Statehouse, now finds it way to the City Streets of Boise.

More updates to come, as this story develops

State of Idaho Debt Clock snapshot: State of Idaho $6,786,143,306 in debt

Mark Reinhardt- Boise Idaho

According to a snapshot taken from usdebtclock.org The State of Idaho is currently Six Billion, Seven Hundred Eighty Six Million, One Hundred Forty Three Thousand, Three Hundred six dollars in debt.
http://www.usdebtclock.org/state-debt-clocks/state-of-idaho-debt-clock.html

The clock itself, also contains a statistical comparison of Idaho's current population. Along with the number of persons unemployed and on Food Stamps.
U.S. Debt Clock.org Snapshot of the State of Idaho
Among the financial debt burdens facing the State of Idaho, is the cost of running the Idaho Legislature. The estimate, being given at $30,000 dollors a day. Has been a contentious estimate in light of the Legislature's focus on "Social Issues" such as, Abortion, Gay Marriage, and Non-Binding statements issued on the subject of "Medical Cannabis" usage within the State of Idaho.

Using the $30,000 esitmate, and the legislature's bill tracker system.. I had tallyed the cost of those three items using a calculator pre-installed on my computer.

This particular video was tallying the cost estimate of time spent on Non-Binding resolution SCR 112. In which, the State of Idaho had used this legislation to express opposition to Marijuana Legalization. Local church leaders had argued that people will answer a poll in a certain way, depending on the poll's wording. Referring to a Boise State University public policy poll showing 78% in support of Medical Marijuana legalization.

Those in support of SCR 112, later said that they can go through FDA approved means for such medicine. However, FDA approved Medicine has had a great deal of legal troubles within the past decade, according to Al Jazeera English's People and Power programme.

Many supporters of Medical Marijuana legalization had also mentioned the financial benefits to state coffers in relation to Tax Revenue for State Budgets. This concept was touched on In-Depth by the "Radical" Russ Belville Show:

There are those within the Idaho Legislature, who have argued that the Medicaid Program had been a big causal factor in Idaho State Budget Deficits. Largely pointing to recepients as the source of the financial trouble. According to the Idaho Attorney General's website. This was the amount of money recovered from taking Glaxo Smith Kline to court in 2012...

According to Idaho State Senator Patti Anne Lodge, this is what she said about Tax Payer waste in programs like Medicaid:

While she is correct in regards to issues surrounding Waste and Fraud. A search for 2012 Medicaid Fraud had immediately revealed the issue to be a Provider one.

Meanwhile, the Idaho State Legislature has had a long history on tackling Abortion Legislation.
As previously reported, by the WordPress version of this Blog. Such efforts have lead to protests surrounding the Government Intrusion into Women's Healthcare
http://acousticfreeze.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/in-depth-the-cost-of-time-spent-on-abortion-legislation-in-the-state-of-idaho/

An issue that had previously divided the Wyoming State Legislature, as touched on by the Rachel Maddow Show:

Meanwhile, as the Debt and Unemployment increase, more focus has been placed on restricting Civil Liberties, and placing importance on Social Issues, such as, Gay Marriage, Marijuana Legalization, and Abortion legislation.

Seven Chemical related Spills hit the State of Idaho in 2011, down to two in 2012

Mark Reinhardt-Boise Idaho

Idaho is often considered a place of natural beauty and wonder when talking about the wilderness areas of the state. During sessions of the Idaho Legislature, a great deal of controversy in recent sessions has involved  Public Lands, and protecting the Environment surrounding areas of Idaho. One example involved protests surrounding the transit of Oil Equipment across a narrow stretch of Highway.

The protests themselves, were dubbed, "The Megaloads Protests" after the size of the equipment being hauled down a stretch of Highway in Northern Idaho. Where environmental safety concerns were highly prevalent during that time.

The body representing the State of Idaho during fuel and chemical spills is called, "The Idaho Board of Examiners." A political body whose in charge of addressing payments relating to law suits and environmental damages.

Whenever there is a chemical spill involved, the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security sends an invoice for the amount of money needed to cover clean-up costs. Those same costs also related to the clean up of Meth Labs, Biohazard Incidents, and investigations of White Powder packages.

In 2011, a chemical related accident had occured in Nez Perce County Idaho. The subsequent amendment that was shown in red, had paid for the cost of clean up in full.

The most notable set of meeting minutes from the Board of Examiners, was dated May, 17th 2011, in which, four separate chemical related spills had been billed to the State of Idaho by the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security.

Activist group "Wild Idaho Rising Tide" had begun the process for another Megaloads Protest in October of 2012.
Environmental activists were increasingly concerned about the ability to have their voices heard on the issues after a Scandal involving Idaho State Senator Monty Pierce placing an Oil Drilling Lease on his property.

An Ethics Committee investigation was later started after news of the Drilling Lease had made it into the mainstream.

As environmental concerns mount within the state, many Idaho Residents are now wondering if the State Legislature has been bought by corporations. Citing campaign contributions given to Elected Officials by different energy companies.
